What is VAX-D Therapy?
The safe, cost effective, non-surgical treatment offering hope for the millions who suffer from chronic low back pain.
VAX-D is a unique, patented spinal decompression technology that does something other treatments for chronic low back pain have failed to do: it actually promotes the healing of the injured disc. Non-surgical VAX-D can prevent the need for painful, expensive and uncertain results of surgery. In addition VAX-D patients experience the following benefits:
- Relief of acute or chronic low back pain, leg pain and numbness, often within the first few sessions of treatment
- Successful in over 70% of patients with previously unresponsive cases, even failed surgery
- Non-invasive and safe
- No patient hospitalization or recovery time
- Reduction or elimination of pain medications
How Effective Is It?
Clinical studies show VAX-D® is an effective treatment option.
VAX-D has been shown to be effective and is classified as a Class II Medical Device approved by the FDA.
A study conducted in 1994 was administered by the Departments of Neurosurgery and Radiology, Rio Grande Regional Hospital, McAllen, Texas, and the Division of Neurosurgery, Health Sciences Center, University of Texas, San Antonio, Texas. These studies included fluoroscopic videos and measurement of disc pressure of these patients during VAX-D Treatment. This proved that VAX-D could decompress the intervertebral lumbar spaces during treatment. A 70% Effectiveness Rate was achieved with patients who had lumbar disc pain previously unresponsive to other treatments.
An additional study in 1996 was conducted at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In this study, twenty-two medical centers were asked to complete evaluation forms on 622 Patients who had a diagnosis of herniated disc, degenerative disc or facet syndrome confirmed by an x-ray or MRI scan and who underwent VAX-D. The success rate, defined as significant reduction in pain, was 75% among these patients.
RESULTS MATTER! If you define treatment success as a reduction in pain to 0 or 1 (on a scale of 0 to 5, 0 being no pain), then VAX-D is extremely successful. Research continues to show that people with cases of multiple herniated discs went from 4.13 to 1.18, a reduction of 71%. The patients with a single herniation had a reduction from 4.16 to 1.09, or 71%. The degenerative disc cases reduced from 3.93 to 1.17, a 70% reduction. The patients with facet syndrome had a reduction of 4.00 to 1.13, a 72% reduction in pain. Overall, 71% of the patients experienced a reduction in pain to 0 or 1.
It is important to note the patient population for these multiple research studies was comprised of individuals with unresolved low back pain who were referred for neurosurgical consultation. These patients had outstanding results despite previous treatment including conventional bed rest, medications, physical therapy, chiropractic and/or previous back surgery. They were the worst, most stubborn low back conditions and many of the patients had literally given up hope for relief. Yet they had a 70% success rate.
It is important to note that these studies demonstrating a 70% success rate were performed on patients using VAX-D therapy as their only treatment option. At Team Health Care Clinic, we expect a success rate greater than 70% on even the most stubborn cases because we provide a wide range of options to meet the needs of each particular patient.
Do You Qualify?
How do I know if I qualify for VAX-D Therapy?
After reviewing the information on VAX-D, there are 3 questions everyone asks:
- Am I a candidate for VAX-D?
- Will the treatment work for me?
- Is VAX-D covered by my insurance?
There are two things we need to do to determine if you are a candidate for VAX-D: review a recent MRI report or x-rays, and do a comprehensive physical examination. Because not everyone is a candidate for this procedure, there is NO CHARGE for this evaluation. As a matter of fact, about 50% of those we evaluate are not candidates for this therapy.
While we can’t guarantee VAX-D will work for you, here are some facts to keep in mind:
- 13 studies and publications have shown that over 70% of VAX-D patients report their pain was eliminated or greatly reduced.
- Most patients begin to feel VAX-D working in the first 3 to 7 visits.
- Non-invasive, safe
- No hospitalization or recovery time
- Promotes healing of the disc
Team Health Care Clinic has a much higher success ratio compared to 70% success rate reported nationally. That is because the standards we use to determine whether you are a candidate or not are very stringent; in other words, we are not going to recommend VAX-D unless we are confident it will help you.
At this point, we don’t know if your insurance will cover the procedure. Once it has been determined if you are a candidate for VAX-D, we will contact your insurance provider to find out what type of coverage you have.
If you qualify for VAX-D and wish to begin treatment, we will then make any necessary financial arrangements with you. In the event that VAX-D is not covered by your insurance, we will provide you with flexible payment options that make VAX-D extremely affordable.
The cost for treatment of disc problems can vary depending upon the different requirements of each individual, and will be assessed during the initial evaluation. The cost of VAX-D itself is $100 per visit. Patients typically need between 10 – 20 treatments.
What To Do Next:
- Call our Champlin medical, chiropractic and physical therapy office at 763-323-1492 to schedule your qualification examination. There is NO CHARGE for this visit.
- Fax a copy of your MRI report to us for review. Fax it to 763-422-1657. Please include “regarding VAX-D” on the cover page, along with your name and phone numbers(s). If your MRI indicates that you are potentially a candidate, our doctor will recommend a visit our office for a complete examination to confirm these findings.
“Since VAX-D, I am getting my life back! I can walk again and shop without using an electric cart. I am able to cook, do laundry and dishes without my low back bothering me much. People are telling me that I’m looking good. Team Health Care Clinic has been a God-given blessing to me. The doctors and staff are truly interested in your health and well-being. I would not hesitate to trust them with my total health care- if they were nearer where I live. Can you all be cloned and moved 80 miles south?”
The Little Known Secret: What is VAX-D® and how does it work?
Here’s a hint at the secret. It’s contained within the name of VAX-D, which stands for Vertebral Axial Decompression. Let’s start with a quick review of how this amazing piece of machinery called your spine can cause you so much pain.
It really boils down to one thing – pressure. Your back is under an immense amount of pressure. The effect of gravity, weight, and the intense amount of seemingly simple daily activities puts a lot of downward weight on your spine.
The discs and muscles in your back are the amazing shock absorbers that protect your back from the daily abuse that you give it. A healthy disc is extremely tough. It is also plump with water and nutrients. It provides the perfect shape and resistance to perform the job of a shock absorber.
Over time a number of problems can occur with the disc. The effect of age, excessive weight, poor posture, wear & tear and everyday activities put an enormous amount of pressure on your back and your discs.
This pressure contributes to the disc losing its strength, also known as ‘degeneration’. When the disc degenerates it begins to lose vital fluids, dries out and becomes brittle. This can result in tears and bulging. This degenerative process can be going on long before you feel any pain. An accident, sudden movement or simple bending or turning to do something can trigger a tear or bulge. The pressure against your nerves brought on by these damaged discs is what causes the pain, which for many people can be unbearable and incapacitating.
VAX-D® Treats The CAUSE Of The Pain
VAX-D differs from most other treatments because it not only relieves your pain but actually allows the body to do something amazing – heal the disc
The Little Known Secret That Makes VAX-D So Effective
VAX-D gently stretches the spine to create a negative pressure in the intervertebral discs. The negative pressure creates a vacuum, which actually begins to suck the disc back into its normal shape.
Vital fluids and nutrients are drawn back into the disc, creating an environment that allows the disc to heal, thereby correcting the cause of the problem.
VAX-D is the only non-surgical treatment method shown clinically to actually decrease the patient’s disc pressure, allowing for the healing of the disc.
Alternative To Surgery
If you are considering back surgery, let’s take a good look at your options before you make this important choice. Surgery is able to accomplish two fundamental outcomes:
- Decompressing a nerve root that is pinched
- Stabilizing a painful joint
Surgery cannot literally “cut out” the problem that is causing so much pain. Surgery can only change the anatomy and remove tissue. It does not actually heal a bulging or herniated disc; it simply removes a portion of the disc.
Surgery physically alters the spine by removing all or part of the problematic disc. Although this can reduce the pressure on the nerve, and relieve the back pain, the surgery tends to place more stress on the healthy discs above and below. Complications from surgery can be severe and may result in debilitating conditions.
The number one reason back surgery is not effective is because the part of the disc that was removed is not, in fact, the cause of the patient’s pain. Studies show that almost 1 in 6 people have another operation within four years.
Now compare this to the VAX-D treatment. VAX-D is a medical decompression technique that creates a powerful vacuum inside the discs of the lumbar spine. Precise measurements of tension and pressure allow the specially trained therapist to target decompression to the specific level of spinal dysfunction.
The negative pressure of the vacuum draws the herniated disc back into its proper orientation, draws nutrient-rich spinal fluid into the disc, and stimulates repair cells, effectively mending the disc.
There is no cutting, no scar tissue, no hospital time, and no long recovery time. VAX-D allows nature to perform the miracle of healing!
So the first thing you have to think of when you compare surgery to VAX-D is the difference between removing vital tissue compared to actually healing the disc itself and the effect this will have on the rest of your life. This is one of the intangible costs that you need to consider before you decide to have surgery.
There are also other costs to consider. How much pain will you experience? How long will you be out of work? How long before you can return to normal activities? How much therapy is required after the treatment? How much will co-payments be for the surgery, hospitalization, doctor visits, therapy, and medications? How much have you spent on many of these already?
What if you have already had surgery? The good news is that having previous back surgery does not disqualify you from VAX-D. (An exception to this is if you have fixed surgical hardware used to fuse the spine.) In fact, clinical studies show that VAX-D is as effective for patients who have had one or more back surgeries.
Surgery is expensive in terms of risk, money, recovery, time off from work and how it will affect your back for the rest of your life. Comparatively, VAX-D is a low risk, low cost, and can be a very effective alternative. In addition we are making it virtually risk free for you to come in and try it for yourself.
VAX-D® Treatment Is Much Different Than Spinal Traction With Much Better Results
Our medical, chiropractic and physical therapy providers utilize both traction and Vax-d for our patients. However, in patients with lumbar disc bulges, degeneration and herniations, our providers unanimously agree, Vax-d is the superior treatment.
Consumers and physicians who are uneducated on the VAX-D will often compare the procedure to traction. VAX-D differs significantly in a variety of ways from spinal traction. In fact, VAX-D has received United States and International patents because of its unique treatment method where traction has not.
There are many factors incorporated in the design and treatment protocol allowing VAX-D to attain negative disc pressure without pain or risk of injury to the patient. Traction, on the other hand, has never been shown to create negative pressure in live patients.
Remember the critical difference is the ability to create a vacuum effect within the disc- drawing fluids back into to the disc, re-hydrating and drawing any bulges or herniations back into place. Because traction can’t create negative pressure in the disc, it is unable to have the same effect
as VAX-D.
“I feel great and now have my life back. If anyone is thinking about getting VAX-D stop thinking and start doing! Today. The first day you get on the bed is the beginning of the restoration of the whole you, physically as well as mentally. It saved me from having back surgery.”
“I started VAX-D treatment very skeptical, and I left very happy.”
“I just didn’t want to take the risk of surgery. VAX-D is amazing. My physician couldn’t believe that it worked!”
“It did away with the pain… it was worth the cost. I had to do something; it was VAX-D or surgery.”
